This renewal process is a mandatory legal requirement to re-confirm a business’s financial health, tax compliance, and the validity of its security deposit with the State. Pursuant to the Customs Act, 2064 and Section 8 of the EXIM Code Procedure, 2079, all trading entities must renew their 13-digit code for each year via the electronic portal. This requires importers to maintain a Bank Guarantee of NPR 3,00,000 from an A-Class commercial bank with a minimum one-year validity. Additionally, a valid Tax Clearance Certificate from the Inland Revenue Department (IRD) and proof of a minimum Paid-up Capital of NPR 10,00,000 (for importers) are strictly required to verify the firm’s legal and financial standing before the Department of Customs.
Failure to renew your EXIM code leads to immediate trade suspension under Section 12 of the Customs Act, 2064, effectively blocking all import and export clearances. Late renewals attract progressive administrative fines ranging from NPR 500 to NPR 10,000 depending on the delay. Most critically, if a code remains unrenewed for a continuous period of five years, it is subject to auto-cancellation in the NNSW system, forcing the business to undergo a completely new registration process to resume any international trade activities.
